IES Abroad Santiago: Politics, Social Justice & Language

As the capital of Chile, a country with one of the strongest economies in Latin America, Santiago is the industrial and financial center of Chile. Home to more than 6.5 million people, Santiago is an ideal place to observe rapid development and its effects on culture and society. While studying Spanish language, Economics, Politics, and Chilean culture, students explore the intricacies of the Chilean sociopolitical landscape: student activism, the arts as a form of resistance, human rights issues, and an impressive literary culture (via world-renowned authors like Pablo Neruda and Isabel Allende).

Students can also enroll in courses at local universities, including the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (usually requires an interview before enrolling) and the Universidad de Chile, which offer course options for students of all major. They may also enroll in an community-based learning placement (Public Health, Santiago Social Issues) or Internship. Internship placements include:

  • Business
  • Education
  • Government & Politics
  • Humanities
  • Museum Sciences
