IES Abroad Dublin: Writers Program

The celebrated lines of W.B. Yeats, the creation of James Joyce’s “universal city” in Ulysses, the stage of the Abbey Theatre, the blogs of The Irish Times—writers in Ireland have used words and images to inspire, inform, persuade, and entertain their readers for centuries. As they moved into the digital age, writers reached larger and more diverse audiences through platforms that did not exist even a decade ago. Through the study of contemporary Irish authors, as well as those of the past, the IES Writer’s Program is designed to inspire and challenge writers to elevate their skills to the next level.

Whether you approach writing as a future vocation or as a creative outlet, our courses help you discover and explore your voice and hone your craft. From short story writing and the graphic novel to digital communication and writing for the screen, our courses cover a wide variety of styles and genres. The required 1-credit Writing for the 21st Century Workshop is designed to tie these varied skills together, and this workshop can be combined with a range of writing-related courses or service learning placement working with At-Risk Youth and Disadvantaged Comunities.
