Law & Society Series
The Role of Government
4th Annual Law & Society Symposium
Charleston Music Hall
February 9 – 10, 2012
Law and Society 2012 focused on the role of government: in politics, in the judicial system, and in the lives of citizens. For a complete program, click here.
The symposium began on Thursday, February 9, with a lecture on “the Constitution and the Role of Government” by University of Virginia School of Law Professor A. E. Dick Howard, one of the nation’s top constitutional scholars.
The two-day symposium continued Friday with panel discussions on campaign financing after Citizen United, the impact of third parties, immigration and states’ rights, marriage rights, and fitness to practice.
Among the panelists and presenters were Bob Edgar, president and CEO of Common Cause, former U.S. Congressman Bob Inglis, S.C. House Speaker Bobby Harrell, R-Charleston, and S.C. Representative David Mack III.
The Law and Society Series is a joint effort between the Riley Institute at Furman and the Charleston Law Review.
