Professional tennis legend Billy Jean King is quoted as saying, “You have to see it to be it.” Yet how often do high school students, or anyone for that matter, get to see the inner workings of the corporations, organizations and post-secondary institutions in Greenville, South Carolina? Healthcare is not just nurses taking care of patients and manufacturing is more than just building cars!

The DLI Upstate Class 35 Dream Makers team created the Career Pathways project, which aims to provide high school students with first-hand exposure to the diverse array of careers that exist behind the scenes in various industries. Through a combination of an in-person visit by team members to our partner organization, Greenville Technical College’s Upward Bound program and on-site tours of various team member industries, participants gain insights into the intricate workings of professions often overlooked or misunderstood. From manufacturing, banking and health care to non-profits, tourism, tech and higher education, this project offers an exploration of the hidden jobs that drive our economy, locally, nationally, and globally.

This program offers high school students a unique opportunity to explore professions that drive our economy across South Carolina. Through the combination of in-person presentations and on-site tours, we aim to inspire and educate the next generation of professionals, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and motivation needed for future success.
