Sue began her employment at Furman as the manager of Furman’s Mickel Tennis Center and provided administrative assistance to the Paladin tennis teams. Prior to her time at Furman, Eckstein Sue served as the athletic director at Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill for 12 years.

A native of New Canaan, Connecticut., Eckstein earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Duke, where she competed on both the women’s golf team and the field hockey team. After graduation, she began her professional golf career on the Space Coast Tour then played in seven events on the European Tour. Eckstein competed on the LPGA Futures Tour from 1985 through 1987, finishing 21st on the money list in 1986.

Her husband, Tim, is the general manager/PGA professional at the Furman Golf Club, while her son, Todd, is an assistant men’s golf coach at Virginia Tech. Eckstein’s son, Tyler, earned a degree from Furman in 2019 and currently serves as the Furman men’s basketball video coordinator. Her daughter, Anna, graduated from Furman in 2018, competed on the Paladin volleyball team and is currently a nurse at MUSC.
