Paul has been committed to the cause of higher education in Greenville, and now the State of South Carolina, since his first job as an instructor at Greenville Technical College in 1972. He has been an adjunct faculty member at Furman since 1974, having taught at least one course in economics, personal finance or investment management nearly every year for over 40 years.

Over the years, Paul has been heavily involved with the Technical College System in South Carolina. Since 1978, he has served on the Area Commission for Technical Education at Greenville Technical College as a trustee and served as Chairman of that Board for four years. Currently, he serves as Chairman of the Board for the South Carolina Association of Technical College Commissioners which serves all 16 technical colleges in South Carolina. His local and statewide roles keep him busy at Greenville Tech as well as with the technical college system presidents, state board members and system staff.

In a new role, he was appointed by the governor recently to serve as a member of the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (CHE) as the Commissioner for Public Technical Colleges. In this capacity, he serves also on the Finance Committee and the Committee on Academic Affairs and Licensing. CHE acts as the coordinating board for South Carolina's public institutions of higher learning.

Paul earned his BS from Clemson University and an MBA from Clemson at Furman, later taking additional courses in the Furman UES program to enhance his accounting skills. He began his career as an instructor at Greenville Technical College, has worked as an accountant for an international manufacturer, was Chief Financial Officer for a regional firm for several years, and has owned and operated his accounting and tax practice for 28 years.

He and his wife, Ann, live in Greer, SC with all the dogs and cats that have found their way to their door.  They enjoy visits as often as possible to their secluded North Carolina cabin.
