Furman University’s Brent Nelsen goes on record with WSPA 7 News (CBS) and WYFF News 4 (NBC) about what former President Trump’s conviction in the hush money trial means for the upcoming election. Nelsen, the Jane Fishburne Hipp Professor of Politics and International Affairs, said the Upstate and South Carolina more broadly are deeply entrenched Republican strongholds, so the guilty verdict for Trump will have little impact in the state. But, he said, the decision may keep voters away from the polls across the nation come November.
