Kenia Flores ’20 gives a TEDx FurmanU talk in 2020.
Kenia Flores ’20, a politics and international affairs and history alumna, has experienced blindness since birth. She also knows the difficulties associated with casting a vote at election time. An article in Yes! Magazine explores voting access and organizations committed to building representation and the political power of people with disabilities. One of those groups is Detroit Disability Power where Flores serves as a voting access and election protection fellow. The advocacy group conducts poll-access audits to make polling locations more accessible. Flores said that by providing local election clerks with the data, they gain a better understanding of what barriers at the ballot box look like.
