John Yates, former trustee, named co-chairman of Atlanta law firm

John C. Yates, a former member of the Furman University Board of Trustees, has been named co-chairman of the Atlanta-based law firm Morris Manning and Martin. The firm announced the promotion on its website and through a press release. Yates, who has been with MMM for 37 years, is founder and head of the firm’s corporate technology practice. He is recognized as a pioneer in the field of technology law. Last year, he received the Technology Association of Georgia’s inaugural Georgia Technology Lifetime Achievement Award. He has also been lauded for his civic leadership in the Atlanta area, supporting groups including the YMCA, the Woodruff Arts Center, CURE Childhood Cancer and the Technology Executives Roundtable. The Atlanta Business Chronicle presented Yates with the 2023 Leaders in Corporate Citizenship Ann Cramer Lifetime Achievement Award. Yates and his wife, Ellen, have one son, John (Paul) Yates, a 2010 Furman graduate.
