Furman’s Bruce Adams digs the dirt on composting
Furman University’s Bruce Adams breaks down the proper way to compost in an article by Sarah Swetlik of The Greenville News. Adams manages the Furman Farm at The Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities. He said that while options for composting in the Upstate are limited, homeowners who have enough space, about 3′ x 4′, and who use the right recipe of carbon, nitrogen, water and air, can turn yard and food waste into healthy natural fertilizer in about 30-60 days. Adams said starting with an in-person or online composting class is a great first step.
