We are so excited to see you on campus for in the coming weeks! We are working hard to plan an exciting and informative campus visit for you. I’m sure you have a few questions as to what you can expect while you are here, so hopefully those will be answered below. If not, feel free to contact us and we will be happy to help.

Prior to attending Summer Orientation, you will need to fully complete the New@FU online platform. Additionally, please make sure you’ve also completed the following tasks:

  • New Student Survey
  • Language Placement Exam
  • First Year Writing Seminar Preference Form

Instructions for completing each of the above tasks are included in the Next Steps Checklist, found in the final section of New@FU.

During orientation, you will meet with a Summer Advisor who will help you to get started on your path at Furman by explaining academic requirements and advising you on your initial course selections. This Summer Advisor is not your permanent academic advisor, rather an advising expert who can guide you as you make these initial decisions. You will be assigned to your Pathways Program advisor later in the summer and you will meet with that person when you arrive in August.

When you arrive for Summer Orientation, there will be Orientation Leaders around campus to help guide you. Check in will occur in the Hill Atrium, located on the second floor of the Trone Student Center from 8:30-9:00 a.m. You may park in the South Housing parking lot, which is located near the baseball and softball stadiums. Please note that you will need to walk a short distance from the parking lot to the Trone Student Center. If this is a concern, please contact us to discuss alternate options.

If you would like to view a campus map prior to your arrival, you can find one here.

If you are going to be late, please call 864-294-2068 to let us know. If we don’t answer, please leave a voicemail with your name and expected arrival time.

Some tips:

  • You will not need a laptop or tablet during Summer Orientation, so no need to bring one.
  • Casual attire is appropriate for Summer Orientation – we want you to be comfortable! You will be walking around campus a bit, so comfortable shoes will be important.
  • You might also want to keep an eye on the weather – an umbrella or rain jacket are a good idea, as we are prone to afternoon showers in the summer.
  • Remember that lunch is provided!

You will receive an orientation schedule specific to your session upon your arrival, but feel free to look over the schedules online.

We look forward to seeing you on campus soon!
