The Furman/MAD Network Got Me a Job!
Master’s Student Melanie Rankin discusses how the network available through the partnership between Furman University and the MAD School of ideas gave her a superior learning experience and helped her land her dream job!
What can you say about the networking that was available through the program?
Well the networking got me a job, so it’s pretty awesome! I am currently working for one of my teachers who I had in two different classes. She saw the way I worked in the classroom and she recommended me to her boss. Her boss actually is also an alumni of Miami Ad School.
It really has amazed me how many connections the school has across the globe. We have these seminars weekly where Hank, Stephanie, and everyone down in Atlanta bring in these design legends or alumni who are just killing it out there. You have that one on one opportunity to talk with them and ask questions and follow up with an email if you want!
I actually got to host Lana Rigsby, a designer who’s company does these beautiful typographic pieces and books. Immaculate… just beautiful work. To talk one-on-one with someone who I have admired… I look at her work at this level thats so high up there for me.
All these people that you look up to as like design icons, they were once in your shoes. They know where you came from and where you’re at, and they’re still willing to provide that feedback and help, even at the level of just starting out, so that was a really cool experience for me.
