Talking Teaching: Imagining SoTL Opportunities

January 26, 2022 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Are you curious about ways to simultaneously improve your teaching, enhance learning, and conduct scholarly research? Have you considered exploring the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) within your discipline or area of expertise? Or, have you already invested time in thinking about potential SoTL projects?  Whether you are new to the SoTL conversation or revisiting it, we invite you to take part in this Talking Teaching opportunity.

SoTL involves iterative, systematic inquiry into processes of student learning and experience in your courses with the goal of improving those processes. SoTL is conducted by faculty in any discipline and is informed by the broader literature on teaching and student learning in higher education and within specific disciplines. In this Talking Teaching session, participants will identify or refine questions about their teaching and learning that might align with SoTL scholarship, discuss the basic processes involved in conducting SoTL research, share their experiences with the work, and preview a new FDC summer initiative called SoTL in Action. We welcome all levels of SoTL practitioners, however, no experience with SoTL is required.
