Furman University Outdoors Club (FUOC)
Outdoor Adventures provides the opportunity to get outside and explore the natural environment. A majority of this is done through the Furman University Outdoors Club (FUOC). FUOC is a student-led organization that offers multiple trips per semester and free equipment rental opportunities. All FUOC sponsored activities are for students only and most require an annual membership fee of $10.

The Furman University Outdoor Club (FUOC) is a student-led organization focused on creating a community for Furman students to explore the outdoors and provide diverse and exciting outdoor experiences. Experiences and events are created and led by FUOC Officers who are students that are passionate about sharing their love for nature and outdoor adventures with others. FUOC aims to reach students of all backgrounds and experience levels by lowering potentially imitating barriers that typically hold students back from outdoor experiences.

The Rabbit Hole, located off the Swamp Rabbit Trail, it is the FUOC clubhouse building used to store gear. It is also where weekly meetings and office hours are held. No. FUOC strives to create an environment that is welcoming to Furman students of all levels of outdoor experience and to plan trips to grow participants’ confidence and abilities outside.
It is free to go on all FUOC trips if you have paid your yearly dues of $10. The dues will provide members with access to all trips and the gear we have stored for check-out in the Rabbit Hole. A few trips, such as our yearly ski trip will incur a fee to cover additional costs.
FUOC leads a variety of trips each year. Annual trips each year are as follows:
- Turtleback Falls Hike + Swim
- Tubing in the Green River
- Belay Your Boo and Belay Your Bae (Rock climbing nights)
- Ski Trip in Virginia
- Surf Trip to Charleston
- Camping on Campus
- Hikes to Table rock
- Canoe Camping
- Gem Mining
Other types of trips are offered depending on the season.
Yes! Students who paid the academic year membership fee can rent gear from FUOC. Gear check-out and return are done during office hours (Thursdays and Sundays from 4-5 PM) at the Rabbit Hole. Available gear includes tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, hammocks, and more. Be sure to return all gear within a week of check-out!
Yes! FUOC officers either have a Wilderness Advanced First Aid or Wilderness First Responder certification. They are equipped to provide emergency medical care while in the backcountry.
