Congratulations on being admitted to Furman University!
We hope you'll decide to be #FURMANBOUND. So why should you choose Furman?
We have a million reasons, but we'll start with three:
- Learn. Grow. Become. Together, we’ll find out exactly what you’re meant to be in this world. That’s a promise.
- You’ll have a big advantage. As a Paladin, you’ll experience a personalized path paved with high-impact engaged learning and dedicated support.
- Guaranteed Opportunities. Furman is where you’ll find opportunities to learn and grow (and not just in the classroom). Think: research, study away, internships, collaborative learning, community-focused programs and partnerships.

Yes! As a residential campus, we have many students who chose to bring a car all four years. Ample parking in close proximity to residence halls is available.
Summer Orientation focuses on the nuts and bolts of class selection and preparing students for the academic transition to Furman. Fall Orientation introduces students to life at Furman and, in addition to preparing them for the start of classes, supports the physical and social transition to college. For additional information about both programs, please visit the New Students website.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Furman has focused on the health and safety of the campus community while continuing to serve our students’ academic goals. For the latest updates, operational plans and our COVID-19 dashboard, please visit the Furman Focused website.
As a freshman, you’ll be matched with a roommate in one of our freshman residence halls or learning communities. Most of our freshmen housing is in South Housing. Our detailed questionnaire helps us match you with someone who has similar interests, a process that has proved very successful. Not knowing your roommate may seem intimidating at first, but it’s a great way to meet new friends and get involved in new activities.
Be sure to request to have your final, official transcript sent to Furman. Equivalency for courses completed prior to high school graduation will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Students should be prepared to present evidence, which could include course syllabi and grade materials as directed by Enrollment Services in support of an appeal for credit. Furman staff will be in touch with all enrolled students regarding potential dual enrollment appeals the summer prior to starting at Furman, based on receipt of official transcripts.
More information about the requirements for a Bachelor’s degree can be found in Furman’s University Catalog.
Students may declare a major at any time with approval from the department chair or director overseeing the major field of study. Students are required to declare a major once they have completed 58 or more credits from Furman courses.
