GREENVILLE, S.C.—Furman University will host acclaimed singer/songwriter David Roth Thursday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the university’s Amphitheater.
The concert is free and open to the public. Due to construction on Dave Garrett Boulevard near the Amphitheater, parking will be available in the Daniel Memorial Chapel parking lot with shuttle service to the concert.
Roth is visiting Furman to celebrate the university’s environmental sustainability efforts. An environmental village will be set up in the Amphitheater, with local vendors and campus organizations displaying educational information and promotional giveaways.
Roth, known for his smooth musical style and humorous anecdotes, has garnered accolades for his performances, workshops, writing and recordings. He emerged on the music scene at the 1987 Kerrville (Tex.) Folk Festival, where he was selected as the New Folk winner. The Chicago native has performed across the U.S. and Canada, including two performances of the national anthem at games for the NBA’s Chicago Bulls.
His lyrics have been included in several Chicken Soup for the Soul books, as well as books by Gerry Jampolsky, Barbara Glanz, Alan Cohen and Joan Baker-Gonzalez. He has spent several summers as the artist in residence at New York’s Omega Institute.
