Harry Shucker |
GREENVILLE, S.C.—-Harry Shucker, former vice president of student services at Furman University, will speak on “What Really Matters?” Tuesday, Apr. 29 at 7 p.m. in Furman’s Daniel Memorial Chapel.
The lecture is part of Furman’s L.D. Johnson Memorial Lecture Series. The public is invited to attend without charge. A reception will follow in the Garden Room, located on the lower level of the chapel.
Shucker, a 1966 Furman graduate, retired from the university in 2007 after serving in variety of positions for nearly 40 years. He was vice president for student services since 1985, where he supervised a staff of more than 50 people and oversaw the construction of the North Village housing complex and the renovation and expansion of the University Center. He also served as director of financial aid (1972-74), director of residential living (1974-83), and director of student life (1983-85).
Shucker is currently a member of the Counselor Education Advisory Board at Clemson, and has served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of South Carolina. His honors include receiving the University of Georgia Outstanding Masters Alumni Award in 2004 and receiving the Association of Furman Students Administrator of the Year Award on five different occasions.
Several honors at Furman also bear his name, including the Buford-Cloer-Shucker Scholarship Fund and the Harry B. Shucker Outstanding Student Leader Award. He is a member of the National Association for Student Personnel Administrators, the Southern Association for College Student Affairs and the Greenville Literacy Association Board.
