Important note: Any cancellations within 24 hours of an event or no shows by members for the special one-day events will be charged $25 by OLLI. The member will not be able to sign up for future events or trips until this fee is paid. In case of emergency or sickness within 24 hours of the event we ask that the member call to notify the office or trip leader as soon as possible. The notification procedure allows time for another member on the wait list to be contacted to take your place. Please be fair and considerate to your fellow members.

Bob Thomason is a master dulcimer maker and has been playing for 27 years. Students will learn to build a Mountain Dulcimer from a pre-cut kit. No prior wood working experience required.

783 The Aramaic Jesus
Instructor Anne Bosch has been a student of Neil Douglas-Klatz, one of today’s foremost Aramaic scholars, since 1996, and facilitates workshops and retreats focused on the Aramaic Jesus. We will listen to The Lord’s Prayer spoken and chanted in Aramaic and look at some of the many layers of meaning found in this rich Middle-Eastern language. Participants are invited to chant in Aramaic and do some simple movements as we explore the capacity of the Lord’s Prayer to generate deep love and respect.

785 Assistive Technology
Mary Alice Bechtler works as Program Coordinator with the SC Assistive Technology Program at USC School of Medicine. She will do a presentation on gadgets and devices for independent living. Lots of things will be available for hands-on trial. Also, she will cover basic information about Microsoft accessibility options and ways to adapt computers for easier use. 786 Calligraphy—The Art of Hand Lettering
Saranne Finder, who earned her B.A. from Syracuse University and has won awards and appeared in juried art shows in Pittsburg, will discuss and demonstrate the art of hand lettering, also known as calligraphy, an art form in itself and so much more. Join us as we learn the techniques and beauty of calligraphy. It is recommended that you bring the calligraphy book Written Letters by J. Svaren to this class. 45 minute lunch break.

We all know names like Talbots, Food Lion, Lowes, Wal-Mart and Ruby Tuesday. These names are familiar and we can picture their logos and names on the front of their buildings. But who develops these, designs them and mounts them on the front of the buildings? Hilton Displays does and they do it for a good bit of the southeast region. Come and see them develop these company identifications from concept to completion in their large modern 60,000 sq. ft. facility.

788 Perspectives on Global Climate Change and Impacts on the US
Jay Lawrimore is Chief of the Climate Analysis Branch of NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, a contributing author to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Report, and an author of the report, Global Climate Change Impacts in the United States. He will discuss observations and proxy sources that show that the earth’s climate is warming. Eight of the nine warmest years on record have occurred since 2001. Jay will provide perspectives on changing climate conditions, projections of future conditions, and discussion of the far-reaching impacts of climate change in the US.

790 Clara Barton: Battlefield Angel,
Embattled Spirit
A biographer of both Clara Barton and Robert E. Lee has recently said that Barton is “probably the more important American.” Come learn about her remarkable contributions to American history as presented by Dr. Blackwell, Emeritus Professor of Religion at Furman and International Humanitarian Law Instructor for the American Red Cross.

The tour includes the areas of Early Detection & Renewal, HealThy Self which features cardiac, pulmonary and vascular fitness, where individualized lifestyle plans and fitness programs are designed for clients to reach optimal health; and the St. Francis Sleep Center providing a disease-management approach to diagnosis, treatment and follow-up.
