Internal Communications Policy

UNIVERSITY ONLINE CALENDAR
University classes, meetings and events (club meetings, class schedules, CLPs, athletic contests, etc.) should be posted on the Furman Events Calendar, which is accessible through the Furman News Page. Events posted on this calendar that are open to the public are also featured in an external online calendar < www.furmanevents.com >. Only approved administrators may post to the calendar. For account access and additional information, call 294.2343.


MASS EMAILS
Mass emails (those sent to all faculty, all staff, all students and combinations thereof) are prohibited with the exception of bereavements, emergencies, major news items and university-related online surveys.

STUDENT NOTICES
Any student may post on this board. It is to be used to inform the Furman community about university-related events and news. Do not post “for sale” messages in this forum. Those communications should be directed to classifieds. Messages posted on this board are approved by Student Life. Posts that contain profanity, opinion, unsubstantiated claims or subject matter that may be deemed to be offensive or include hate speech will be removed.
Guidelines for Posting Notices to Student Notices
1. Items must be of newsworthy interest to Furman students.
2. Messages should be short and direct.
3. No messages of a personal or derogatory nature will be posted. Continued attempts to post such messages may result in disciplinary action and/or loss of e-mail privileges.
4. Replies to messages posted to Student Notices must be addressed to the person who posted the original message. Student Notices is not a forum for discussion.
5. In order to reduce the number of messages within Student Notices, all messages will be deleted after 5 days.

STAFF NOTICES
Select staff members may post on this board. Staff Notices may include time-sensitive university emergencies, major news items, important computing and information alerts (virus warnings, software updates, etc.) and news from Human Resources.

FACULTY NOTICES
Select faculty and select members of Academic Affairs may post to this board, which located in Moodle.. Faculty Notices is primarily a depository of minutes from important meetings and notices of meetings. It is moderated by the current faculty chair and select committee representatives. Items posted in Faculty Notices may include information about grants, fellowship opportunities and workshops.

FACULTY NEWS
Select staff members and all faculty may post on this board. Faculty News  may include time-sensitive university emergencies, news items, important computing and information alerts (virus warnings, software updates, etc.) and news from Human Resources.

CLASSIFIEDS 
Furman faculty, staff and students may post on this board. The classified section should be used to post messages concerning personal goods for sale and lost and found items. It is not to be used to post business advertisements or testimonials. Posts that contain profanity, opinion, unsubstantiated claims or subject matter that may be deemed to be offensive or include hate speech will be removed.

THE FLUSHER
The Flusher is a restroom bulletin distributed weekly during the academic year. Items included in the Flusher are also featured on the online calendar.
