Want to study away? We recommend that you begin planning up to a year and a half in advance. Here's an overview of the application process:
Attend A Study Away 101 ADVISING WORKSHOP
The first step in the application process is to attend a Study Away 101 workshop. Held periodically throughout the year, these group advising workshops are led by study away staff. We'll discuss the program options, academic requirements and help you understand the online application process. Bring your questions. Get advice at a Study Away 101 workshop.
Join Faculty for a Program Information Session
Before you begin your application, you'll want to attend information sessions for the programs that you are interested in. These sessions are led by the professors who will be traveling with you. It's a great way to learn about the study away courses, find out if there are any prerequisites, and ask questions. Find an information session.
Get Individual Advising
Need help choosing a program? After you have attended a Study Away 101 session, you can get more in-depth answers to your questions by meeting one-on-one with a study away adviser. Schedule an advising appointment.
Apply TO STUDY AWAY
When you are ready to apply for one of our faculty-led, exchange, or affiliate study away programs, you'll use Furman's online application system. This system will guide you through the process of completing an application, submitting required documents, and preparing to be away from campus.

If you're considering a study away program that is not led by Furman or one of our affiliate or exchange partners, you'll need to complete a few extra steps. In addition to following the program's application instructions, you'll need to set up a meeting with the study away office to discuss your plans with us and find out what additional actions are needed. Schedule an appointment.
